Center and Laboratory for Integrated System Excellence Purpose

Why have a Center and Laboratory for Integrated System Excellence?  Designing and building enterprise-class systems is complex work and adapting solutions to meet varying, unique, end-user requirements demands extensive integration and test facility capabilities.  Further, system specifiers and end-users can effectively use an opportunity to validate their design ideas early in their acquisition process as a means to reduce their risk of acquiring a collection of sub-systems that don’t meet their real needs.  The opportunity to validate one’s concepts requires a full scale working system that is flexible enough to adapt to varying requirements.   Both of these desirable activities require a substantial working enterprise-class system that can be modified as a foundation for the them.  The Center and Laboratory for Integrated System Excellence provides the infrastructure and system needed to sustain these activities.  Its goals are:

To create a multi-vendor venue where highly integrated system solutions may be conceived, developed, and tested according to open test procedures with published results. 

Integrated  enterprise system solutions are complex and unique.  Building such systems requires a laboratory capable of providing a robust test environment that truly simulates real-life situations.  The laboratory will provide the field devices, infrastructure, and computing environments needed to support thorough testing and  objective comparison of different products and approaches to meeting solution requirements.  The Laboratory will provide a complete integrated solution environment so that “best of breed” comparison testing of alternative components is feasible.

To create a venue where system solutions may be effectively demonstrated and adapted to meet end-user special requirements without the usual hand-waving, smoke blowing, and mirrors tilting of limited test facilities. 

A network connection to a web site, a PowerPoint presentation and an able presenter are not equal to a chance to bring user technical experts and decision makers together with a working system for an extended period of time so that a real comparison of user requirements and solution capabilities may be accomplished.  The Center will provide such a venue where serious shoppers can try out their ideas to meet their needs.  Imagine being able to model your solution in a laboratory that has all of the required elements needed to produce realistic operating conditions.  This cannot be done at an installed site and having the ability to validate solution design is essential to mitigating risk in the acquisition process.

The laboratory is constructed from products that are known to be "best of breed". But, the laboratory is not exclusive to partner’s products and frequently includes new and emerging technologies or products specific to a particular customer.  Partners have contributed to the Laboratory because they want their products to be the best and have made a commitment to sharing open testing results as a demonstration of that commitment.

Scheduled visitors will always be welcome to see the most public enterprise system solution test facility in the world and to observe how it is utilized to prove solutions and product capabilities.
