Data Control Station

On Other Pages...

The Data Control Station (DCS) is the primary form-based interface used for installing, defining, administering, and  maintaining the system. The DCS utilizes Oracle's SQL*Forms® to permit entry and validation of the data which controls the system. Oracle's extensive query  capabilities give the end user quick, selective access to data. Pre-built query interfaces allow access to the system logs, and a SQL command line interface may be used by those familiar with SQL. User data editing  capabilities are restricted by password and user authorization level.

A single DCS is supplied with EnterpriseSMS packages. Additional DCSs may be purchased to extend the number of users able to perform administrative functions concurrently.

The design of the DCS allows users to easily define, configure, and identify components; run various system processes; and customize system behavior. The use of intuitive, meaningful command terminology  simplifies maintenance and decreases operator training costs; it also minimizes operator errors.

Icons displaying the most commonly used data entry forms are available from the main form. It is possible to install and administer certain, straightforward systems using these icons alone.  Administrators of more complex systems use additional data entry forms accessed from the pull down menus at the top of the screen.

DESIGN AND OPERATION

Operators enter information into the system using both a fill-in-the-blank and point-and-click graphical user interfaces, permitting fast data entry and edit. Every operator action is checked  by the system through appropriate messages. In many fields, valid entries are selected from pull-down lists, decreasing the risk of invalid data entry. Wherever possible, integrity checking prevents the entry of  data inconsistent with other entered data. When an entry error occurs, either due to a data inconsistency or formatting error, a message explaining the error to the operator displays. Operator entry errors do  not cause a system failure or halt.

FUNCTIONAL AREAS

The following main menu options display pull-down menus for accessing data entry forms:

  • Personnel Information
  • System Log Access
  • Facility Configuration and Administration (including area definition and access template definition)
  • Device Configuration and Administration, including Events Definition (macro definition, including guard tour administration)
  • Alarm Definition and Management (including map definition)
  • System Administration (including user definition, message routing setup, and validation list creation.
  • System Management Reports
