The Expansion Board increases the device connection capacity of the Open System Controller. All components hold industrial environmental ratings. The board is firmware-free and adds  user-configurable communications ports to the total I/O capacity of the OSC board assembly. An OSC assembly may be either a standalone BaseBoard, or BaseBoard and from one to three add-on  Expansion Boards. The BaseBoard alone is configured to support 2 readers, while each Expansion Board is configured to support up to 4 extra readers with associated device connections to a controller.

Flexible Port Connection Capability

The usage of any individual port on the board is not fixed. Unused ports may be reassigned for other purposes through appropriate software or data assignments. There are 4 Universal Data Ports, 16  Digital Outputs, 12 4-state Digital Inputs, and 4 Relay Outputs (NO/NC).

Universal Data Port Connections

There are 4 universal data and digital output connectors, each configurable to provide a serial RS232, RS485, Clock & Data, or Wiegand electrical interface connection. RTS and CTS flow control  signals are provided in the connector for use with the appropriate interface. Four (4) digital outputs (5V, 20ma energized, 20 ma max path to ground de-energized) are also provided. State is shown by board-mounted LED's.

Digital Input/Relay Connectors

Digital input/relay output connectors provide two 4-state digital inputs and one relay output (NO/NC). Each digital input and relay output state is shown by the board-mounted LEDs adjacent to its  connection point on the connectors.

Auxiliary Input Connectors

For each universal dataport connector, an auxiliary input connector provides an additional 4-state digital input. State is sown by board-mounted LED's.

Address Configuration Ports

The Expansion Board has a rotary dial address configuration port. This port is used to provide the address of the expansion board relative to the controlling BaseBoard.

Additional Expansion Board Components

Other Expansion Board components include a power regulator for converting 12-volt DC to board-required voltage levels, a 60-pin buss expansion connector for attaching Expansion Boards to the  BaseBoard, a power supply connector, a reset button, and a fuse that protects the board from overcurrent. .
