EnterpriseSMS System 5 provides the small to mid-sized system user a powerful security management solution designed to meet industry
requirements for integrated security and access control management. The System 5 supports up to five user stations and an
unlimited number of field devices. Implemented according to the robust client/server computing model, and because of its upgradeability to the System 10, System 5 provides an
unprecedented level of configurational flexibility to its users.
The System 5 supports a variety of different access control subsystems. These include the Open System Controller (OSC), the
Group 4 MultiNode 3400 and Micronode, and the Cardkey D600-2 and D620.
The standard System 5 license includes the System 5 Server and Database license, one (1) Access Control Subsystem Interface
Module (SIM), one Operator Command Station license, and one Data Control Station license, all running on the system server. Additional
Subsystem Interface Modules, such as additional Access Control SIMs, Video SIMs, Monitor SIMs, and Intercom SIMs are available as options for the System 5.
EnterpriseSMS supports industry standard network protocols. Workstations connect to the EnterpriseSMS server over Ethernet or
Token Ring LANs using TCP/IP. Intervening WANs, MANs, routers, and other links are supported so long as they are transparent.
SYSTEM 5 STANDARD FEATURES
EXTENSIVE ALARM AND EVENT PROCESSING CAPABILITIES
EnterpriseSMS provides extensive Alarm and Event management capabilities. Operators acknowledge, process, and release alarms
using a simple, point-and-click interface. Users may open and close doors, inputs, and outputs, and execute Host Macros, either freely
or subject to supervisory approval. If installed, EnterpriseSMS provides for the management of Guard Tours, CCTV, and/or Intercom
subsystems. Users may query the badge database by badgeholder name or badge number, displaying identification information about
the badgeholder, and his/her stored image if present. After all actions, operators either may, optionally or by requirement, enter
comments regarding the action. Such comments log along with the action message.
User Installability
Like any off-the-shelf software product, EnterpriseSMS is user-installable from CD-ROM. Dealers and users are able to reinstall
their systems should unforeseen problems, such as those relating to computer hardware, occur.
Event and Archive System Logs
EnterpriseSMS maintains two separate log databases for the storage of alarm and event information. All system messages post to the
event log in real time. After a user-defined number of days, aged messages transfer to the archive log. This scheme permits 24x7
operation of the system, as well as allowing extensive historical data to be stored and queried without impacting normal system operation.
Multiple Operating System Support
EnterpriseSMS supports mixed operating environments within single systems. Server and client processes run on WindowsNT 4.0, AIX,
and SCO. In addition, client processes also run on Windows98. (The Integrated Badging Station is not available on UNIX.)
Host Macros
Host Macros allow users to automate access control schemes, procedures, and build custom features. They are system-wide in their scope and operation.
Application Programming Interfaces
Application Programming Interfaces provide users with the ability to share information between other related systems. The External Data
Interface connects EnterpriseSMS with other database applications, such as a human resource system, permitting record updates from
one system to automatically update the other. The External Badging Interface provides support for non-ICS badging workstations. In
addition, the Foreign System Interface allows EnterpriseSMS to log, messages, and in some cases, control, access control systems from different manufacturers.
Database Partitioning
Database Partitioning allows users to logically divide their databases into separate portions. Users administer each partition as a separate
system, with complete data confidentiality between partitions
Pre-Loaded Configuration Templates
Templates are pre-defined, operational characteristics common to portals or device types. When a template containing a set of
operational characteristics is applied to a portal, that portal assumes that set of predefined behaviors. In this way, large systems with
many portals may be installed quickly and easily.
24 by 7 Operation
All EnterpriseSMS processes are monitored by other system processes to ensure that the system operates continuously 24 hours a day.
Complex Organizational Structures
The ability to handle complex organizational structures makes it easily adaptable to both multi-tenant office facilities and large, departmentalized companies.
Oracle Relational Database Management System
Designed for intensive environments, the Oracle database provides sophisticated features enabling high-availability, high performance, and redundant operation.
User Defined Fields
Users may define up to 100 custom data entry fields for inclusion in the Personnel and/or Badge data records. These fields may be
printed on badges, used for electronic data transfer to or from other databases, or for inclusion on reports generated by using optional
reporting tools available from Oracle.
Multi-Man Areas
This extension of the 2-Man Rule allows the user to define an area requiring any number of badgeholders, and/or designated supervisors, to be present before access is granted.
Enhanced Antipassback
Timed and zoned antipassback schemes are supported. Timed prevents multiple ingresses by a card through a portal without an
intervening egress. Zoned logs the location of a badge through a facility, preventing accesses that are not logically possible. Readers
in a given scheme need not be attached to the same controller.
Duress Access
When badgeholders use a special duress PIN, they access portals while generating alarms to Operator Command Stations, notifying
other system operators that the badgeholder has been coerced to pass through the portal.
Extended Access for the Physically Challenged
When enabled for a given badgeholder, additional time is granted to pass through portals without alarms being generated. The amount of
extended time granted at a specific portal is user-defined.
Executive Privilege
Executive Privilege permits designated badgeholders to gain access through portals in their access profile without regard to schedule, PIN, or antipassback validation.
Keypad Access
When configured for a given portal, users with access through that portal may gain access by keying their Encoded ID [and PIN, for a PIN-enabled reader] without a badge swipe.
Graphical Maps
Users can choose to have alarms post on a graphical map display as well as on the Operator Command Station Alarm Scoreboard. The
displayed map can be zoomed, and the facility navigated using control buttons displaying maps upstairs, downstairs, north, south, east, or west, of the displayed map.

SQL Access
EnterpriseSMS provides access to the SQL command-line prompts, allowing users to run their own SQL database scripts against the
database. SQL scripts may also be called from Event-Responses. Sophisticated users can use this capability to query the database
directly, and create reports to meet special needs.
Key Inventory Database
The key database tracks keys issued to badgeholders. An attempt to deactivate an access when keys are associated with the
badgeholder record displays a warning message to the operator.
Standard Reports and Templates
EnterpriseSMS includes extensive reporting capabilities, including general system log reports, administrative reports (such as
badgeholder activity, badges authorized for specific areas, etc.) and technical system reports.

Elevator Control
Elevator control allows access control to, and restrictions to be placed on, specific floors and elevator banks.
Device Warranty Database
The device warranty database is a searchable database with fields for serial number, warranty expiration date, and maintenance
location for each field or computing device making up the system. Predefined warranty information reports are included.
On-Line Help
All system documentation is provided in electronic format.
Single Universal User Station
A single Data Control Station and Operator Command Station running on the system server is supplied.
SYSTEM 5 OPTIONAL FEATURES
Ad-Hoc Reporting
The Ad-Hoc Reporting package includes Oracle's Browser, a tool for creating custom reports from the EnterpriseSMS database.
Muster Reporting
Muster Reporting provides the ability to check for badgeholder whereabouts in case of emergency. Should an emergency occur,
badgeholders who have not swiped their badges at readers located in designated safe areas are reported.
Guard Tour
Multiple tours may be active simultaneously. Sequential and random checkpoints may be defined in the same tour. While in process, tours
may be paused, terminated, and/or restarted by the system operator.
Video SIM
Operator Command Station users may view security points in alarm; pan, tilt, and zoom cameras; and display images from any facility
camera at will. Potential users should contact ICS for specific manufacturer support.

Intercom SIM
Operator Command Station users may view security points in alarm; pan, tilt, and zoom cameras; and display images from any facility
camera at will. Potential users should contact ICS for specific manufacturer support.
Monitor SIM
The Monitor SIM (MonSIM) is a user-defined software module that can accept binary input from any type of electronic device. By
specifying certain data strings to search for in the device's output message, the MonSIM translates those output messages into
EnterpriseSMS event messages, which are then processed normally by the system. It determines the nature of the input (alarm or
event) according to the defined message structure of the device, and log the message to the system logs. Examples of binary systems
supported as such include facility or plant environmental systems, other access control systems, etc.
Additional Networked User Stations
System 5 supports up to five networked user stations for extended alarm and event monitoring, high security, badging, and device status monitoring.
Multiple Language Support
EnterpriseSMS is available in both French and Spanish
Two Person Approval
The Two-Person Approval feature sends a message to other Operator Command Stations that an operator has attempted to
execute a Door Control, Device Control, or Events transaction. Another user with supervisory authority may then approve the action, or deny it through inaction.
METASYS Interface
The METASYS Interface allows Johnson Controls' METASYS system to connect to EnterpriseSMS to receive and respond to real-time
event activity. Notification of alarms, alarm acknowledgment, update, bypass, and release are supported, as is device control and communication verification.
Large Database Indexing
Large Database Indexing permits extremely large EnterpriseSMS tables to be maintained online and queried efficiently. With this
package, large facilities can keep years of log and badgeholder records on-line, without significant degradation in system operation and response.
Contractor Time Calculation
The Contractor Time Calculation package allows time tracking using standard badge readers. Reports are provided permitting users to verify contractor billing.
Enhanced User Administration
Optional Enhanced User Administration includes additional tools for Personnel Entry, Facility Scheduling, Area Definition, Access Template Definition, and System Configuration.
Parking Lot Control
The Parking Lot Control option is a Host Macro permitting operator control and monitoring of a controlled access parking garage. The
macro tracks the number of cars in the garage at any given time, matching that number against the known number of available
spaces. When the garage is full, garage access devices are deactivated, and an output device indicating a full condition is activated.
