Printing Pages from this Website

If you have any trouble printing pages from this website, use the FILE-PRINT command rather than  the PRINT button on the toolbar. This gives you additional printing options.

If you are printing for inclusion in a presentation, proposal, or other professional document, the use of a high quality paper is recommended. Your paper should be of above average weight (24 or 28lb), bright white (92 or above), high opacity. Printing must be done at 600dpi or above for accurate graphic rendering.

When printing Acrobat .pdf files on older printers or printers with insufficient memory, certain errors may result. Typical errors include

    1) garbled printing, and/or
    2) memory overflow errors on the printer.

If either occurs, decrease the graphics resolution you are printing the document in. On the PRINT dialog box, click Setup. Then, decrease the graphics resolution by following the procedure found in your printer documentation. Unfortunately, decreasing the graphics resolution may distort the illustrations in the printed publication. If you are unable to successfully print the desired publication, see below.

Using Acrobat to Read Publications

Most downloadable publications on this website are in Adobe Acrobat format. The Acrobat format is used to insure  consistency in look and feel when publishing interactive manuals. In order to read publications downloaded from the ICS website, the Acrobat Reader must first be installed on your system. Many software products today install the Acrobat Reader  as part of their standard distribution. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat installed, you may download a free version of the Acrobat Reader by clicking here.

Displaying Acrobat Files

If the Acrobat Reader is installed, you can display a .pdf file from within your browser by clicking on it, if your internet connection is fast enough. If connecting through a dial-up line, you will often get errors on files larger than a few hundred KB. Faster, direct internet lines can rectify this, but even the fastest connections may not be able to display PDFs larger than 2 or 3 MB. Symptoms of a slow connection/large file mismatch are graphic display problems, font errors, blank page display, and/or browser crashes. If you experience any of these problems, download the PDF file to your computer, then doubleclick it from the Windows Explorer.

Downloading PDF Files

Click the right mouse button on any link to a PDF file. The displayed dialog box providing the Save Target option. Select a folder to save the PDF to (the Desktop is usually most convienient) then double-click on the file's icon.
