Middleware Components and Interfaces

Middleware Components and Interfaces provide a means for systems to become larger and communicate more efficiently.  Typically they are distributed throughout the Enterprise’s infrastructure providing their services .  ESMS integrated services are detailed on the linked pages.  The figure represents a sample of the kinds of middleware components integrated into EnterpriseSMS.  The following list suggests the roles fulfilled by this software.

  • A video server or a group of video servers distributed in different locations around your enterprise, probably in clusters where there are clusters of cameras, reduces network load by locally storing video from local cameras and providing live and historical video on demand.  This approach economizes on the network capacity needed to support the system.
  • SNMP Component Monitoring, Position Reporting and Tracking, and General Purpose Monitoring interfaces make connections with edge devices and services so that their information is available to the system.  This general purpose monitoring expands the systems scale and importance.
  • Subsystem interfaces like the OSC II access control subsystem, the SCADA monitoring and control subsystem, and Intercom subsystem get provisioned by system databases, receive commands from the system, and report subsystem activity to the system.
  • Video Analytics middleware provides video content analysis services and appropriately distributes events and intelligence gained in that process.

Follow the individual links to see how EnterpriseSMS uses middleware components to provide broadly distributed, diverse systems.
