EnterpriseSMS includes a world class, adaptable access control and intrusion detection solution scalable from 1-Door or 1-Point to an Enterprise. This solution uses the open architecture of the HID VertX family of access control products and will soon support the Edge, Edge Plus, and Edge2 family of single door controllers. A variety of legacy products will continue to
be supported as well as a capacity to support host level interfaces to proprietary access control systems. Generally, host level interfaces are non-provisioning and lack the advanced capabilities of EnterpriseSMS Access.
However, for those with significant installed bases of legacy products, integration of those systems into an EnterpriseSMS solution allows a system owner to enjoy the benefits of tomorrow’s command, control, and communications capabilities today without the cost or replacing their entire infrastructure.
The Edge Component
Edge components in an access control application include all manner of doors (single, double, single and multiple door mantraps, single and multiple door vestibules, elevators, vehicular gates, and things that behave like doors) operating under a diversity of rules ( badge in with a variety of egress rules, simply controlled doors, bidirectional badging, operator power doors, all kinds of Antipassback, counting rules, zoned access rules, dynamic user defined rules, validations with
multiple external databases or services to mention a few) that support the access control policies and documentation requirements of your Enterprise. Similarly, the access control application is a place for intrusion detection and device control. Edge components utilize an edge device to operate and these edge devices provide access to the specific field devices that implement the instructions of the access control application software.
The edge device of choice for EnterpriseSMS is HID Global’s VertX, Edge, Edge Plus, and Edge2. VertX is particularly attractive because it may be expanded to control
outputs and monitor inputs with the V200 and V300 expansion boards. The OSC II data sheet details the happy marriage of OSC software and HID hardware and software. See the Access Technical Solution page for details about how these two products are merged to produce the OSC II. Thus, a collection of edge components (doors, monitored inputs, and controlled outputs) operate under the control of OSC software running on a single VertX V1000 and the expansion boards need to connect to the required field devices.
The Middleware
The OSC SIM is an EnterpriseSMS component that provides distributed support for OSC II Edge Devices. In the illustration the OSC II SIM is controlling a number of V1000 controllers. These controllers may control a large number of doors, potentially up to 64 doors.
So the figure at right could represent a system of 320 doors. The OSC SIM collects the activity from each VertX and preprocesses it for distribution to users of the information. This can be an enormous savings in network activity if 320 doors represent active doors. The OSC II SIM provides the data needed by the OSC software on the V1000. It contains all of the requisite information to fully operate, configure, and collect events from the OSC II. An OSC II SIM can operate a huge system since 100 OSC IIs is not unreasonable for a properly configured SIM. Moreover, when redundant solutions are required, the OSC II SIM has the field proven smarts to effectively implement any level of complex redundancy scheme.
The Core Services
EnterpriseSMS provides a full, WEB based user interface for provisioning EnterpriseSMS Access Control Applications. Using this interface the system administrator can completely configure every aspect of an EnterpriseSMS system. This provisioning service is also the repository for all event data reported by EnterpriseSMS Access Control Subsystems.
The EnterpriseSMS Monitoring service monitors all system activity including access control and distributes events to other applications requiring events notifications. One special consumer of events in the Enterprise Command Station, the user interface for command and control of the access control functions of EnterpriseSMS.
