Access Control Technical Solution
ICS’ technical solution to providing the best access control capability in EnterpriseSMS is to utilize the HID Global VertX platform, a 100Mhz, 32 bit RISC processor with configurable, distributable port expansion boards. Large amounts of memory complements this processor’s computing power making it an ideal product as a standard platform for the future. Further, HID Global’s commitment to innovation and product quality means that more options and capabilities will become available over time. This product is available world-wide and has a substantial base of users distributors and suppliers. It is very competitively priced.
Edge, Edge Plus, and Edge2 all support the same operating environment and device drivers. For this reason these additional single reader / single door access control edge components are being supported. This suite of hardware provides a powerful competitive edge and a future proofed solution for EnterpriseSMS users.
HID provides the device drivers needed to interact with the V1000, V2000, and VertX expansion boards, which give this solution an enormous capacity to support your requirements . Using the HID device drivers for the VertX port expansion boards all manner of typical security Field Devices may be connected and controlled. The V300 pictured at the left provides 16 controlled outputs just as the companion V200 provides 16 inputs. The V100 provides all needed ports to control 2 doors and then some. EnterpriseSMS provides the means to configure, operate, and monitor all of these expansion boards.
ICS’s Solution
The hardware view of the insides of the OSC II are shown above. Similarly, we illustrate the insides of the software in the figure below. The diagram below shows how an OSC II is built on top of a VertX. Each essential component is illustrated below. HID standard software and hardware, which are not altered by the OSC II, is installed on the VertX (and Edge, Edge Plus,…). Any COTS V1000 with expanded memory is acceptable to the OSC II software. The diagram shows a V1000 to a V100. There may be many V100s, V200s, and V300s in any arrangement connected to a V1000.
Only the V1000 is affected by the OSC II software. The OSC II software communicates with the V1000 expansion boards and ports using standard V1000 device drivers. By design, the OSC II – VertX Interface abstracts the relationship between the two software applications so each is protected from changes in the other.
The OSC II supports an extensible indexed database that expedites look-ups and updates. This database is designed to operate in a mixed flash/dynamic RAM environment. Additional tables and indexes may be added to meet custom requirements.
The OSC II supports several interfaces including an open, public EnterpriseSMS interface that is compatible with the OSC I. It goes beyond the OSC I because it supports more features. This is a network interface. Upon completion and final ANSI certification, it will support the ANSI SIA APC standard interface. It also supports the OSC II Remote Diagnostic Client interface whose EnterpriseSMS elements are also open and public and available without charge.
The OSC II advanced access control software provides leading edge access control capabilities that are fully integrated into the VertX. The page Access Control Capabilities provides a review of just how powerful the OSC II really is. While the initial deployment of the OSC II will be available on the VertX family of products, full support for the HID Edge, Edge Plus, Edge2,… line of products is also “in the works”. All will support the same OSC II applications software and family of products.
All of the OSC II’s interface protocols will be published on this WEB site for free use. Additionally, the OSC II will fully comply with all applicable emerging standards for security component interfaces.
